Freelancing in this age and time is proving to be an efficient way of earning as a writer. If you have an edge for writing, you can easily get paid for doing it online.

If you are a beginner, you must be facing the obvious question, “How and where do I start?”

The answer is not that complicated and its all out there, and here, for free.

Firstly know that there are a few sites for freelancers that are currently having a lot of traffic, and you should be on them.

Create your profile:

Start by creating profiles on websites such as freelancer, fiverr, and upwork.

Choose 4–5 niches like health, technology, blogging, fashion, lifestyle etc. You may also choose any one of these and become a specialist in the particular niche. The aim is to start writing on the topics related to your niche and start publishing them on websites like medium or linkedin. These articles will not only give you practice but also they will act as samples of your writing and you can showcase them to your clients in your portfolio.

So write and be active as a writer by posting atleast 3–4 times in a week.

Don’t commit plagiarism:

Its vital that the articles that you write are original and not copied from the internet. Whenever you research for a topic on internet, it is important that you read to know and not to copy-paste. Eventually you must write whatever information you take from net in your own words. This will make your work authentic and reliable, and that you would get paid for.

You might consider registering on copyscape.com for $5 subscription to check your writing for plagiarism before submitting it to clients, till you get used to writing original pieces.

Improve your skills:

Fix sometime in your day to get informed about tips on writing better content online. There is a lot of information regarding this online that you can search and read about. Also, building a habit of reading books will help you improve your writing too, definitely.

So tips such as, write short sentences, use bullet points etc help sustain the reader’s attention. The aim is to make your writing readable and sustain your reader’s attention.

Create Gigs:

When you create profiles on the above mentioned sites, you will also have to add your freelance writing gigs that will tell about the job you can do and your rate card. It is advisable to keep your rates bit low as a beginner so as to get more jobs that can help you build on your review.

Hence, you have to be diligent and patient to build your career as a full-time freelance writer. In the beginning things may go slow but eventually you will get more clients if you keep improving and show persistence in your endeavor as a content writer. Remember, the growth is exponential and the sky is the limit.

Not a rocket science, isn’t it?
